Garlic Cheese Biscuits (Copycat Red Lobster Biscuits)

By April 9, 2025 No Comments

These Garlic Cheese Biscuits are a warm, cheesy Southern dream—fluffy, buttery, and full of flavor with every bite. Inspired by the famous Red Lobster biscuits, this copycat version is made with Bisquick for a no-fail recipe you can have on the table in under 20 minutes.

Perfect for entertaining or when you just want to whip up something comforting and delicious—these biscuits are so easy you could nearly make them with your eyes closed.

These biscuits are downright addicting—I’ll be honest, I probably ate four of them as they came out of the oven! They’re buttery, cheesy, and have just the right amount of garlic. What a treat they are, especially when served warm right out of the oven. Perfect for when company’s coming, or even when you just want to treat yourself to a little homemade comfort.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

– Made with Bisquick for ease and simplicity

– No yeast or kneading required—just mix, drop, and bake

– Rich flavor from freshly shredded cheddar and garlic butter

– Perfect as a side for any meal or as a quick appetizer for guests

Ingredients that you’ll need to make  Garlic Cheese Biscuits (Be sure to see the full printable recipe below this post.)

– Bisquick baking mix

– Garlic powder

– Baking powder

– Unsalted butter

– Buttermilk

– Sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated

– Dried parsley flakes

*Pepper jack cheese (optional but good) I added 1/4 cup of pepper jack cheese to mine. I did reduce the cheddar cheese to 1 cup though.

How to make Garlic Cheese Biscuits

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 450°F. Mix Bisquick, garlic powder, baking powder. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  • 2. Stir in buttermilk and cheese until just combined.
  • 3. Drop by scoopfuls onto a parchment-lined
  • baking sheet. For best results, chill dough scoops in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before baking.
  • 4. While the biscuits are baking, mix the melted butter, garlic powder, dried parsley and salt together in a small bowl.
  • 5. Bake for 6–8 minutes or until golden. Brush with melted garlic butter and parsley flakes. Serve hot.

Helpful Tips for the Best Biscuits

-Note: These biscuits won’t rise a mile high—and that’s perfectly okay! The generous amount of cheese in the dough adds richness but also some weight, which naturally keeps them a little flatter. The high oven temperature (450°F) and a touch of extra baking powder help give them a nice lift while keeping those irresistible golden, crispy edges. They’re just like the Red Lobster biscuits—soft, fluffy, cheesy, and a little crunchy around the outside. The first time I made these, they were a bit flatter, but after raising the heat and adding a pinch more leavening, they turned out just right.

– Make sure both your butter and buttermilk are extra cold for flaky layers.

– Use freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese for better flavor and texture.

– Don’t overmix the dough—just stir until it comes together.

– Drop by rounded spoonfuls or use an ice cream scoop for even biscuits.

– For extra rise, place scooped dough in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before baking.

– Bake at 450°F to get a tall, golden top (high heat helps lift the dough).

– Brush hot biscuits with melted garlic butter and a sprinkle of parsley flakes right after baking.

Storing and Reheating

– Store biscuits at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

– Reheat in the oven wrapped in foil for best texture (avoid microwave if possible).

– They can be frozen, but may lose some of the soft texture; reheat in the oven, not microwave.

Variations

– Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup pepper jack cheese for a spicy twist.

– Mix in finely chopped jalapeños or green chilies.

– Use Monterey Jack or a blend of cheeses—keep total to about 1 1/4 cups.

– Add chopped cooked bacon or ham for a savory breakfast version.
