Hot spiced apple cider is a comforting, aromatic drink that not only warms the body but also the soul. The blend of spices, the sweetness of the apple, and the tangy hint of citrus create a symphony of flavors that is truly Christmas in a cup.
Hello, my dear friends! As the Christmas season is upon us, I can’t help but feel a sense of warmth and joy. The twinkling lights, the festive decorations, and the aroma of holiday treats wafting from the kitchen, all contribute to the magic of the season. Today, I am thrilled to share with you a recipe that is close to my heart and perfect for the holiday season – Hot Spiced Apple Cider.
This delightful beverage is a staple in my home during the holidays. It’s actually been a tradition for Christmas morning since my kids were little. Zach and Ashley both look forward to having this delicious hot apple cider first thing on Christmas morning.
Ashley took this photo one Christmas morning when the cider was simmering over the stove.
You can make this in a crockpot and let it slowly heat up and simmer all day or heat it over the stove if you are short on time. I usually make the cider in a pot over the stove top and then transfer it to a crockpot to keep it warm or you can pour it in a thermos. I’ve done that as well. Either way your house is going to smell like Christmas!!
Love Hot Apple Cider on a crisp fall day!
So, let’s get started on this heartwarming recipe!
Ingredients that you will need to make Hot Spice Apple Cider. (Be sure to see the full printable recipe below this post.)
whole cloves
fresh orange (additional oranges for slices for garnishing if desired.)
fresh apple cider (In the fall of the year, you’ll find fresh apple cider in the refrigerated section of the produce department)
cinnamon sticks
fresh orange juice
white granulated sugar
ground cinnamon
ground cloves
ground nutmeg
Garnishes: sliced oranges, sliced lemons, sliced apples, cinnamon sticks, whipped cream, caramel sauce. (Optional)
How to make Hot Spiced Apple Cider
1. Stick the cloves into the orange and place in a large pot or crock pot.
2. Pour the apple cider into the pot. Add cinnamon sticks, orange juice, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Stir well.
3. Slice the orange, lemon and apple and add them to the pot.
4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes. If using a cock pot, turn on high and once the cider is hot turn down to simmer. You can also heat in a pot then transfer to a crockpot to simmer to stay warm if you are having a party.
5. Pour into mugs and garnish with orange, apple or lemon slices. Freshly whipped cream drizzled with caramel sauce is also a delicious touch as well. Serve warm and enjoy!
Now, let’s talk about some entertaining tips for the holidays.
1. Make it ahead: The beauty of this recipe is that you can make it ahead of time. It keeps well in the fridge for up to a week. Just reheat it before your guests arrive.
2. Serve it in style: Presentation is key. Serve your hot cider in clear mugs so your guests can appreciate the rich color. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or an orange slice for an extra festive touch.
3. Pair it with the right food: This cider pairs wonderfully with holiday treats like gingerbread cookies, sugar cookies or mince pies.
4. Make it a DIY station: If you’re hosting a larger gathering, consider setting up a DIY mulled cider station. Keep the cider warm in a slow cooker and provide an assortment of garnishes like cinnamon sticks, orange slices, whipped cream and caramel sauce.
5. Non-alcoholic and kid-friendly: This recipe is non-alcoholic, making it perfect for guests of all ages.
This Hot Spiced Apple Cider is more than just a drink; it’s a celebration of the holiday season. It’s the warmth of family gatherings, the joy of gift-giving, and the comfort of holiday traditions. So, this Christmas, as you gather around the fireplace with your loved ones, raise a mug of this delightful cider and toast to the magic of the season.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas filled with love, laughter, and delicious food!
With love,
Aletia
