Iced Caramel Macchiato

Description

The iced caramel macchiato is a true indulgence that combines the boldness of espresso, the creaminess of milk, and the sweetness of caramel. With its beautiful layers and refreshing taste, it’s the perfect companion for warm summer days or whenever you crave a delightful pick-me-up.


Ingredients

  • 1 shot of espresso or 1/2 cup strong coffee.

  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup. For a homemade syrup, you will need ½ cup water and ½ cup white granulated sugar and  1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract.) I’ll tell you how to make the simple syrup in the instructions below. You can also use Starbucks vanilla syrup but this homemade one is much better.
  • ⅔ cup milk (Any flavor of milk such as almond milk will be good. For an extra rich Macchiato, use heavy cream or half -n-half!)
  •  2 tablespoons of caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Caramel drizzle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew a shot of espresso or prepare a strong cup of coffee. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  2. To make the vBrewanilla syrup, combine ½ cup water and ½ cup white granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Mix well.Over medium heat let the sugar water come to a boil. Gently boil for one minute. Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract. Let the syrup cool for a few minutes. 
  3. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, leaving some space at the top for the syrup, milk and coffee. 
  4. Pour the cooled syrup and milk over the ice and stir.
  5. Next, slowly pour the cooled coffee over the milk/vanilla syrup mixture and very gently stir allowing it to mix with the sweet milk and create beautiful layers. 

5.Drizzle the caramel sauce over the milk, allowing it to sink into the layers.

  1. Give it a gentle stir, and your iced caramel macchiato is ready to be enjoyed!
  2. If desired, top with whipped cream and an additional drizzle of caramel sauce.

    Do ahead tips: The coffee and vanilla syrup can be made up hours ahead of time. The vanilla syrup will keep in the refrigerator for up to one week. 

     

    Tips for the Perfect Iced Caramel Macchiato:

    1. Experiment with different milk options: Whether you prefer dairy milk, almond milk, oat milk, or any other plant-based Tipsalternative, feel free to use your favorite. Each type of milk will bring its unique flavor and texture to the drink.
    2. Customize the sweetness: Adjust the amount of vanilla syrup and caramel sauce according to your taste preferences. You can also use flavored syrups like vanilla or hazelnut to add an extra layer of flavor.
    3. Chill your glassware: For an extra refreshing experience, place your glass or mug in the freezer for a few minutes before preparing your macchiato. This will help keep your drink cooler for longer.
    4. Get creative with toppings: Besides whipped cream and caramel drizzle, you can sprinkle some cocoa powder, cinnamon, or crushed nuts on top to add a delightful touch.
