Description

These Southern Cheese Wafers are the ultimate easy twist on traditional cheese straws—crisp, buttery, and packed with sharp cheddar, pecans, and a hint of cayenne. Perfect for showers, tailgates, parties, or simply when you need a true taste of the South.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (sifted and then measured
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 ¼ cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • ⅓ cup finely chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and cheese until smooth.
  3. Stir in flour, cayenne pepper, and salt until a dough forms.
  4. Gently fold in Rice Krispies and pecans (if using).
  5. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and flatten slightly with a fork.
  6. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden at the edges.

Let cool completely before serving or freezing.

Optional Notes:

  • You can also add a sprinkle of paprika on top before baking for a pretty color!
I love serving these on a white dollie!
  • Swap pecans for finely chopped walnuts if you like.
