Description

It’s a comforting, aromatic drink that not only warms the body but also the soul. The blend of spices, the sweetness of the apple, and the tangy hint of citrus create a symphony of flavors that is truly Christmas in a cup.

Ingredients

12 whole cloves

1 fresh orange (additional oranges for slices for garnishing if desired.)

1 gallon of fresh apple cider (You’ll usually find this in the refrigerated section in the produce department.)

3 cinnamon sticks

1 cup fresh orange juice

1 ¼  cups light brown sugar firmly packed

2 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 ½  teaspoons ground cloves

½  teaspoon ground nutmeg

Garnishes: sliced oranges, sliced lemons, sliced apples, cinnamon sticks, whipped cream, caramel sauce. (Optional)

Instructions

1. Stick the cloves into the orange and place in a large pot or crock pot.

2. Pour the apple cider into the pot. Add cinnamon sticks, orange juice, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Stir well.

3. Slice the orange, lemon and apple and add them to the pot.

4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes. If using a cock pot, turn on high and once the cider is hot turn down to simmer. You can also heat in a pot then transfer to a crock pot to simmer to stay warm if you are having a party.

5. Pour into mugs and garnish with orange, apple or lemon slices. Freshly whipped cream drizzled with caramel sauce is also a delicious touch as well. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Do ahead/Freeze Tips: Cider can be made up several days ahead. Store in the refrigerator until ready to heat and serve. Cider can be frozen for up to two months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and heat according to directions.
