Green Bean Casserole

Description

A recipe that’s synonymous with Thanksgiving – the Classic Green Bean Casserole. This dish, with its creamy mushroom sauce, tender green beans, and crispy fried onions, has graced our holiday tables for generations. It’s so delicious no wonder why Americans have fallen in love with it.


Ingredients

4 cups (18-ounces) or 1 ½  bags frozen French cut green beans

1 ½ teaspoons of salt, divided

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

⅔ cup whole milk or half and half

2 teaspoons sweet soy sauce

½ teaspoon black pepper

– 1 ½ cups French’s Fried Onions, divided


Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) lightly grease a medium sized casserole dish.

2. In a medium size pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 ½ teaspoons of salt to the water. Add frozen green beans to the boiling water. Blanch for 4 minutes. Remove from heat and pour green beans into a colander and drain all the water off. After all the water has drained off, measure the 4 cups of green beans. Only use 4 cups.

3. Place the 4 cups of green beans in a medium sized mixing bowl.  Mix the green beans, remaining ¼ teaspoon of salt, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, and ¾ cup of the fried onions.

4.  Spoon the green bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish and bake uncovered for 25 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbling.

5. Stir the casserole and then sprinkle the remaining ¾ cup of fried onions on top.

6. Bake for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
