Description
This creamy spicy dip can be made in just a matter of minutes with only a few ingredients. It’s always a crowd pleaser and perfect for game night!
Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup sour cream, be sure to use a thick sour cream such as Daisy or Breakstone.
– 1 can (about 15 oz) chili (with or without beans, based on preference. (I used Hormel with beans and it was delicious!)
3 to 4 dashes of Tabasco sauce (optional but adds a delicious spicy/heat touch)
– 1 (heaping) cup shredded pepper jack cheese. You can also use a shredded Mexican blend cheese
– 1 ( heaping) cup shredded medium cheddar cheese
Tortilla chips or Frito scoops for dipping
– Optional garnishes: sliced jalapeños, chopped cilantro, diced tomatoes, chopped sweet yellow onions or sliced green onions
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees While the oven warms up, take this time to mingle with your guests and get everyone in the spirit of the game.
- Prepare the baking dish. Lightly grease a medium-sized baking dish. I prefer using a round 8 or 9 inch pie dish or you can use a 9×9 inch square baking dish. Using a stand-up mixer or electric hand mixer, beat the cream cheese and sour cream together until smooth. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly at the bottom of the dish, creating a creamy base layer. This layer acts as a smooth foundation for our dip, ensuring every bite starts with a rich and velvety texture.
- Add the chili layer. Gently spread the can of chili over the cream cheese layer. Whether you choose chili with beans or without, it adds a hearty and robust flavor that pairs beautifully with the creamy base. Add a 3 or 4 of dashes of Tabasco sauce over the chili layer. (Optional but gives it a nice extra spicy taste)
- Mix the cheeses together and sprinkle the chili layer with a generous blend of shredded pepper jack and cheddar cheese. The pepper jack adds a delightful kick, while the cheddar brings a classic, beloved taste that’s irresistible.
- Bake to perfection. Slide the dish into the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden. The anticipation of this dip is almost as exciting as the game itself!
- Serve immediately. Be sure to add your choice of optional garnishes to elevate the flavors and add a pop of color.
- Serve with tortilla chips, Fritos, potato chips or Ritz crackers. Enjoy!
Notes
Do ahead tip: If you’re pressed for time on the game day or party, you can assemble the dip a day in advance and refrigerate. Just pop it in the oven before your guests arrive, and you’re good to go!
